Household Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) is looking for a Licensed Phlebotomy Specialist. While using proper sterilization treatments, carry out venipunctures, finger sticks, and specimen collections for use in the treatment and medical diagnosis of illness. May function as a mentor in providing guidance to personnel.

Obligations:

  • Follow all developed guidelines for venipuncture, finger stick, heel stick, and collection of body fluid specimens.
  • Total all needed documentation precisely, in a timely way, and completely in accordance with department requirements.
  • Identify problems that may negatively impact test efficiency or reporting of test results.
  • Any identified issues require instant alert to technical CLS supervisor.
  • Workstation and lab areas are kept clean in accordance with departmental and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain laboratory products and products at appropriate stock levels.
  • Monitor and adhere to lab security per the FHCSD chemical health strategy and safety procedures.
  • Perform specimen handling, storage of specimens and processing according to Lab Procedure Manual.
  • Follow the Lab’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, reporting, and preserving records of patient test results.
  • Input order entry, pending log and cancellation of specimens into the computer tracking system.
  • Perform clerical tasks associated with reporting of results and distribution in a timely way.
  • Perform Point-of-Care Waived Test according to Laboratory Procedure Manual.
  • Carries out other tasks as appointed.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 0-4 years of experience carrying out venipuncture and/or fingerstick, heel stick, and collection of body fluid specimens.
  • Certified Phlebotomy Tech Certificate from and approved DHHS training center.
  • Completion of 40 hrs of scientific lab training at an authorized CLIA lab.
  • Completion of 40 hrs of phlebotomy didactic training.
  • Existing California Phlebotomy Tech Certificate or License.
  • Existing American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Heart Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Assistance, or Advance Resuscitation Training.
