Essential tasks and Responsibilities

  • Competent with Health Center Info System (HIS) and Lab Information Systems (LIS) to launch orders or register patients as required.
  • Performs patient registration, payment collection, information entry of market and insurance coverage information and other procedures as needed to support efficient sample processing.
  • Transfers patient test requests from scripts, requisitions and spoken orders into the HIS and laboratory computer system systems.
  • Responses and screen phone call in a professional and handy way.
  • Resolve uncommon or uncertain test orders by calling the doctor, nurse, referral lab and files actions taken. Refer all unsettled concerns to the proper manager.
  • Generates lists and labels. Runs daily reports.
  • Reviews order monitor and examine the collection summary report.
  • Assess orders for unique collection requirements; patient preparation and proper order of draw.
  • Accurately determine patients using 2 patient identifiers. Proficiently perform phlebotomy on client population to acquire blood specimens.
  • Have the capability to examine client action to procedure and communicate with the client at a level that is understandable and comfortable for the patient. Examine client response to procedures and change process as indicated. Get medical/supervisory support as necessary.
  • Accurately determine and identify specimens with client name, date of birth, date and time of collection and collector code.
  • Guarantee specimen stability by using aseptic technique and following appropriate treatments.
  • Skillfully collect other samples as suggested consisting of throat swabs, MRSA swabs, urine samples, heel sticks, finger sticks, blood cultures and blood bank specimens.
  • Performs arterial punctures to obtain blood specimens from adults including the appropriate collection charge. (Rockford Phlebotomy only).
  • Carries out glucose tolerance and hormonal agent stimulation specimen collection in the defined time increments, along with precise patient preparation.
  • Performs research program, Lab One, and unique collection set specimen collection.
  • Provides patient guideline in the collection and handling of personally gathered specimens.
  • Carries out specialized sample collections consisting of breath alcohol testing, random urine drug screens, pre-employment urine drug screens and legal urine drug screens.
  • Gets and accessions collected specimens using LIS, examines for screening acceptability, centrifuges and aliquots specimens as required and delivers to the proper area in the laboratory or batches specimens for carrier pick-up.
  • Appropriately notify testing workers of stat requests.
  • Accept specimens from a range of internal and external clients; sort samples; fix specimen identification or appropriation issues; make use of LIS to properly get specimens; package and track specimens for transportation to referral labs.
  • Possess working understanding of insurance processes particular to reference labs to assure billing is performed in accordance with federal government policies.
  • Drives lab owned or individual car to customer sites, client homes or facilities. Carries out accurate specimen collection at client websites, client homes or centers. Transports specimens appropriately to the lab. Assure invoice of samples to the laboratory;-LRB-
  • Carries out minimal waived screening including blood sugar monitoring according to recognized treatments.
  • At the supervisor’s discretion carry out rapid flu and strep tests, mono screening, pregnancy screening and dipstick urinalysis according to established treatments. Perform quality control treatments and proficiency screening accurately and as closely as possible to client screening. Call important results to the appropriate certified caregiver and chart reports as required.
  • Depending on place may be needed to carry out electrocardiogram tracing ten lead and pediatric EKGs. Communicates critical results to authorized personnel. (Only at tradition Rockford places).
  • Perform result entry in the LIS.
  • Carries out temperature checks.
  • Cleans and checks lab glass wares.
  • Helps with stock and maintenance of products at a proper level Submits orders for supply acquisition; receives and stocks products. Fills supply demands from clients and companies.

Education and Experience

  • Previous phlebotomy experience desired.
  • Experience as a Paramedic, EMT, CNA and/or MA practical.

Certifications/Licensure

  • Phlebotomy Accreditation chosen
