The Laboratory Assistant carries out pre-analytical procedures associated with registration, processing and collection of laboratory specimens. Uses understanding of lab operations to help clients in using lab services. Complies with all lab and safety policies. Uses individual protective equipment (PPE) as required by lab policy and controling firms. Legacy Laboratory Providers is an integrated laboratory service. Personnel may be designated to laboratory facilities at different sites in the system.

Duties
Report distribution and evaluation
Accurate distribution of reports according to treatments at each site.
Review and/or reconciliation of reports as directed by website manager.
Customer Service
Written and spoken communication utilizing however not restricted to Fax, telephone and the Laboratory Details System (LIS).
Interaction complying with laboratory policies and treatments.
Fixing standard client service problems or referring appropriately.
Computer System Skills
Usage of the Lab Information system and other systems connected to the management of client orders and payment reconciliation. Consists of client registration, payment processing, laboratory order retrieval, and test ordering.
Phlebotomy
Performs venipuncture and capillary collections suitable for the age of the patient, professionally and with minimal pain in accordance with lab policy.
Specimen identification
Follows all laboratory procedures for appropriate client recognition and specimen labeling.
Drug Screen Collection
Performs drug screen (might include BAT testing) precisely, following standards and chain of custody exactly as prescribed.
Specimen Getting/ Processing
Follows all treatments connecting to specimen processing.
Communicates suitable details to healthcare service providers regarding specimen collection.
Flags specimens for rejection.
Dispatches specimens to proper screening places.
Aliquots, labels, and processes specimens using suitable equipment and gadgets, i.e., centrifuges and pipettes.
Stores specimens under proper environmental conditions utilizing authorized retrieval systems.
Preserves lab devices and the general appearance of the department.
Computer System Downtime
Demonstrates knowledge of Computer system Downtime Procedures.
Understands, for provided job project, how to handle patient/specimen data when either the Order Communication or Lab Details systems are not available for usage.
Regulatory Compliance
Follow CAP, CLIA and other accreditation and security standards as explained in their respective standards.
Identify and interact issues that might negatively affect patient safety to the supervisor or supervisor. Take part in federal government or regulative agency assessments, if required.
Training, Education and Safety
Go to department meetings and total training and education activities as designated by the laboratory supervisor.
Take part in all appropriate safety training sessions. Know the area and contents of the security manual. Know the location/use of all applicable security equipment. Follow standard safety measures for utilizing personal protective equipment as required.
Take part in training/education activities for brand-new staff members and students as directed by the lab manager/supervisor.
Credentials
Education:
To meet the requirements of laboratory policies High school diploma or GED will be confirmed for any employees employed on or after May 22,2012 For employees carrying out waived testing, a copy of the High School diploma or GED need to be attended to the department file.
Experience:
Phlebotomy abilities are required for lab assistants working in areas that perform specimen collection; previous work experience with phlebotomy or the successful conclusion of a phlebotomy training course that consisted of an externship is needed.
Knowledge and Skills:
Basic reading and composing skills.
Keyboard skills and capability to navigate electronic systems applicable to task functions required.
Interpersonal and communication abilities required.Ability to run standard office devices (i.e., telephone, facsimile, photocopier, computer system and printer).
Basic Medical terminology preferred.
Experience with drug screen specimen collection and standard specimen choice, dealing with, and storage activities, chosen.
Client service experience chosen.
Licensure/Certification:
Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist required for all staff members who perform phlebotomy in the State of Washington (including those who drift into the role).
