Today we are reviewing the 3 classes of hormonal agents: Steroids, Peptides, and Amines. Steroid Hormones are stemmed from cholesterol and have the ability to diffuse through the lipid-bilayer. The 2 kinds of steroids are corticosteroids and sex steroids. Next, we have peptide hormonal agents that utilize ligand-receptor interaction. We have amine hormonal agents. The 2 types are catecholamines and thyroid amines. Catecholamines bind to surface area receptors whereas thyroid amines diffuse through the bi-layer.
