A male in West Texas was apprehended for allegedly forcing a National Guard convoy transporting COVID-19 vaccines off the roadway Tuesday and holding 11 guard members at gunpoint, authorities stated.
Larry Harris, 66, of Arizona, is accused of trailing three National Guard vans from a gasoline station, later on claiming to police he did so because he believed an abducted woman and child were inside the vans, according to cops.
After successfully stopping the convoy, Harris identified himself as a detective and demanded to browse the lorries, Idalou Authorities Chief Eric Williams said in a declaration.
Harris then purchased the guard members out of their vehicles at gunpoint, authorities said.
Authorities stated Harris was speaking erratically when he was apprehended. It was not instantly clear what led him to believe that kidnapping victims were being transported in the vans.
Harris is dealing with a number of charges, consisting of aggravated attack with a deadly weapon, illegal restraint of 11 National Guard members and impersonating a public servant.
He was being held in jail Tuesday on $44,000 bond.
