This publication takes a look at the outbreak of human cases of avian influenza in Turkey in December 2005, the first deaths from the H5N1 infection tape-recorded outside of eastern Asia. Making use of interviews with key health workers and significant firms involved (consisting of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, UNICEF and WHO), it thinks about the elements that added to these deaths, in order to identify practical lessons that nationwide and international public health companies and policy-makers can utilize in the future to react effectively to break outs and a possible avian influenza pandemic.
