The Lab Assistant carries out pre-analytical procedures connected with registration, processing and collection of laboratory specimens. Regulatory Compliance
Follow CAP, CLIA and other accreditation and safety guidelines as described in their particular guidelines.
Identify and interact problems that might adversely impact patient security to the supervisor or manager. Participate in federal government or regulative firm evaluations, if needed.
Training, Education and Safety
Attend department conferences and complete training and education activities as assigned by the lab manager.
Participate in all applicable security training sessions. Know the place and contents of the security handbook. Know the location/use of all relevant security devices. Follow standard precautions for using personal protective devices as needed.
Take part in training/education activities for brand-new workers and trainees as directed by the laboratory manager/supervisor.
Qualifications
Education:
To meet the requirements of lab policies High school diploma or GED will be confirmed for any workers worked with on or after May 22,2012 For workers carrying out waived screening, a copy of the High School diploma or GED need to be provided for the departmental file.
Experience:
Phlebotomy skills are needed for laboratory assistants operating in locations that perform specimen collection; previous work experience with phlebotomy or the effective completion of a phlebotomy training course that included an externship is needed.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Fundamental reading and writing skills.
Keyboard skills and ability to browse electronic systems applicable to task functions required.
Interpersonal and interaction skills required.Ability to operate standard office devices (i.e., telephone, facsimile, copy machine, computer and printer).
Basic Medical terminology preferred.
Experience with drug screen specimen collection and standard specimen choice, managing, and storage activities, chosen.
Customer care experience preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist needed for all employees who carry out phlebotomy in the State of Washington (including those who float into the function).
